Babeș-Bolyai University supports participation in the European alliance EUTOPIA, offering an official procedure for recognizing educational and extracurricular activities carried out in collaboration with partner universities.
This procedure explains how EUTOPIA activities may receive either the EUTOPIA Label or EUTOPIA Micro-credentials.
What Are Connected Communities (CC)?
Connected Communities are thematic EUTOPIA networks where academics, researchers, and students collaborate in inter-university activities.
Their purpose is to:

connect teaching and research across universities;
-
link academic activities with society;
-
promote inclusion and flexible cooperation;
-
strengthen existing teaching and research practices without imposing curricular changes.
Types of Activities Eligible for Recognition
EUTOPIA activities involve collaboration among at least three partner universities and may include:
-
curricular activities (e.g., courses with international guest lectures);
-
extracurricular activities (workshops, joint student projects, open courses, symposia).
1. EUTOPIA Label
The EUTOPIA Label is awarded for:
-
curricular activities already credited within study programmes, or
-
small-scale learning activities (under 25 hours) that cannot receive credits.
Examples of Eligible Activities
-
courses including guest lectures from partner universities;
-
student projects carried out by teams from multiple EUTOPIA institutions.
Application Process
-
The organizer completes an application (Annex 1) and activity description (in RO + EN + programme language).

The faculty dean endorses the documents, which are submitted to the university registry for the EUTOPIA recognition committee.

The committee evaluates the application and may approve it or request revisions.
-
The committee’s recommendation is forwarded to the Vice-Rector for Education and Curriculum for final approval.

Once approved, the administrative expert contacts the organizer to determine how the label will be applied.
2. EUTOPIA Micro-credentials
Micro-credentials are awarded for extracurricular activities exceeding 25 hours, developed in international collaboration.
Examples of Eligible Activities

intensive courses;
-
international workshops;
-
joint academic symposia or events.
Application Process

The organizer submits an application (Annex 2) and a description demonstrating:
-
cooperation with EUTOPIA partners,
-
learning outcomes and competencies developed,
-
workload.
(Descriptions must be in RO + EN + programme language.)

The dean endorses the application, which is forwarded to the EUTOPIA recognition committee.

The committee may approve, request revisions, or recommend issuing a non-credit-bearing certificate of participation.

The Vice-Rector for Education and Curriculum approves the proposal.

The administrative expert provides the certificate template.
-
The organizer prepares individual certificates for each participant and submits them for signatures.
Required Information on the Certificate
-
activity title;
-
name of the Connected Community;
-
names of coordinating academic staff;
-
duration and awarded credits;
-
learning outcomes/competencies;
-
mode of delivery (online, onsite, hybrid);
-
assessment method (written exam, oral exam, portfolio, etc.).
EUTOPIA Activity Recognition Committee
Applications are evaluated by a committee composed of:
-
the EUTOPIA education officer;
-
the local Connected Community facilitator;
-
the curriculum officer.
Entry into Force
The procedure is effective from the date of approval by the University’s Administrative Council.
