In July 2026, students from Babeș-Bolyai University participated in two international initiatives organised within the EUTOPIA European University Alliance: a summer school held in Barcelona and the virtual edition of EUTOPIA Innovation Challenges for Students, coordinated by the University of Warwick.
The two experiences offered participants the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills, collaborate with students from other European universities, and discover new ways to engage with the EUTOPIA community.
A European Learning Experience in Barcelona

Zolcsák Kristóf and three fellow students participated in the summer school organised in Barcelona. The programme combined academic activities with practical exercises, study visits, and international networking opportunities.
During the courses, participants explored how the institutions of the European Union operate and how decisions are made at the European level. The programme also addressed current topics such as the economy, migration, and security.
One of the most appreciated activities was a simulation of the European Parliament, complemented by debates and argumentation exercises. These activities enabled the students to interact directly with participants from other countries and practise their communication and negotiation skills.
The programme also included visits to the Parliament of Catalonia and the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, as well as a workshop dedicated to traditional local cuisine.
“I now have a much better understanding of the role of European regions and their position within the European Union. The discussions about the future of Europe were very realistic, while networking with students and professors from several countries was one of the most valuable parts of the programme,” said Zolcsák Kristóf.
Innovation and International Collaboration through EUTOPIA Innovation Challenges
Emanuela Maria Grigorescu, a first-year student in the International Communication master’s programme at the Faculty of European Studies of UBB, participated, together with two fellow students, in the virtual edition of EUTOPIA Innovation Challenges for Students, organised by the University of Warwick.
During three days of workshops and interactive activities, the students worked in international and multidisciplinary teams to identify innovative solutions to real-world challenges originating from the business and innovation environment associated with the Warwick Innovation District.
The experience contributed to the development of important skills, including negotiation, critical thinking, teamwork, and intercultural communication.
“It was an extraordinary, intensive, and highly educational experience. I had the opportunity to collaborate with students from prestigious European universities and develop solutions to real-world challenges. The programme showed me how strong the EUTOPIA Alliance community is and motivated me to become actively involved in the long term,” said Emanuela Maria Grigorescu.
Her participation in the programme encouraged her to explore further opportunities within the Alliance, including the roles of EUTOPIA Student Career Ambassador and student representative in the EUTOPIA Student Council.
Opportunities Connecting European Students
Through these programmes, UBB students benefit from international learning, collaboration, and personal and professional development opportunities. Academic activities, practical challenges, debates, and intercultural interactions contribute to building an active, connected, and innovation-oriented European community.
Congratulations to our students for their engagement, openness, and the way they represented Babeș-Bolyai University during these international experiences!
